Advocacy

NYS Habitat affiliates built 106 homes in 2005.  Although these homes addressed the needs of 100 NYS families, at this rate of building, it will take Habitat 5,536 years to solve the current problem alone.

The power of the Habitat reputation positions us to use our voice to influence policy and effect change so the needs of more families can be addressed.

New Housing Law Creates Opportunities for Habitat Affiliates

The federal housing bill which was just signed into law creates opportunites for Habitat affiliates to support housing efforts in their communities.

Housing Data

An effective advocacy program or case statement is supported by a concrete definition of the need for affordable housing in your community. These sources can give your case the support it needs.

Empire State Housing Alliance

ESHA is a coalition of non-profit housing providers in NYS that have joined together to effect change in the policies and practices surrounding affordable housing in our state.
HFH-NYS is a member of the coalition and has endorsed their platform. Your affiliate's participation and endorsement is welcome.

Testimony to the NYS Division of the Budget Hearings

Affiliates around the state are working with the state association to advocate for increased housing opportunities in New York State. Testimony was given in November at a series of hearings. More information and the submitted testimony is available.
